Communication in Conflicts - KiK '02

Sep-October 2002

Train the trainers exchange programme with facilitators from South Africa in Berlin
in cooperation with World Community Services (Weltfriedensdienst e.V.) and InterACT (Austria)
funded by the Foundation Umverteilen!
The first multiplier exchange and training programme focussing on the performing arts in conflict transformation took place in Berlin in October, 2002. It was organised in cooperation with World Community Services and their workshop and discussion programme entitled, "Dance, Music and Theatre – Creative Trauma and Conflict Resolution in South Africa", to which a theatre educator and an ethnomusicologist were invited. sabisa invited four South African theatre facilitators to take part in the public workshops of the WFD and participate in a four day training programme on Forum Theatre, facilitated by Michael Wrentschur from InterACT, Austria. One of our guests, Bheki Mkhwane, presented a workshop on Theatre of the Imagination –a method he uses with his partner Ellis Pearson– and performed his one-man play, "Solomon's Pride," on the experiences of migrant labourers coming to the mines in South Africa.

Many of the current sabisa members came as participants to this exchange programme and the desire to continue working with the performing arts for social change manifested in the new direction taken by our organisation.
